All about Studying in Canada

Canada offers some of the best education facilities in the world. From top research and award winning universities, to some great private high schools, international students have a lot of options when deciding on their study in Canada dream.

Student Counselling

Students entering Canada as International students are anywhere from 15 years of age to 40 years of age.

Students at different ages and different educational and career journeys have different needs.

At Richfield, with years of our own experience in the Canadian education system and the Canadian industry, we help answer questions for our students from personal experience.

We take pride in our the quality of our counselling services and how we are shaping the future of the next generation.

For a young student, the questions you should be asking are:

  • How good is a particular college or university?
  • What quality of education will I receive?
  • Which college/university will accept me as a student?
  • What are the subjects that I need to have studied (in my previous education)?
  • When can I finally start studying in Canada?

For young students, college education is a huge investment of time and finances. But more than anything else, it is the first step that is going to define your career.

For older students, you should care more about:

  • Will this benefit my career?
  • Will this give me the career change I’m looking for?
  • Is this the right province for me?
  • Will this help with starting a business?
  • Will this help getting PR in Canada?

University and College admissions

There are hundreds of public and private post-secondary institutions in Canada.

Based on the results of our counselling with a student, Richfield develops a study abroad plan and matches you to institutions that are the best suited for you, academically and financially.

In addition, we have the knowledge to guide you on PR possibilities once you finish your studies. This is the Richfield difference.

We have access to over 200 public and private colleges and universities in British Columbia, Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Nova Scotia and Quebec.

High School Admissions

Richfield is pioneering the success of the schooling visas for students from India.

We offers two options for parents interested in sending their children to study in a Canadian high school.

  • Richfield’s private high school partner in Toronto, TAIE International Institute accepts students from Grade 9 to Grade 12. They also have an amazing UPC (University Preparation Course) for students who have already graduated Class 12 in their home country (State Board/CBSE/ICSE in India) but don’t have the academic marks or the English levels required for admission into a college or university. If you are a high school or a UPC student at TAIE, then you can get admission in many partner colleges and universities without IELTS.
YES. ADMISSION WITHOUT IELTS in a Canadian college or university in Canada is possible for Indian students.
  • Richfield has developed another unique program for students in India where they can study for and pass the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) sitting here in India.
You read that right. You can now get a Canadian High School diploma from India.  We have developed a unique curriculum that meets the academic and community involvement requirements of the OSSD.
Four
Study Visas and study permits

Students from India have two streams to apply for a study visa for Canada.

  1. SDS (Student Direct Stream)
  2. General category

SDS replaced the highly successful SPP in India in 2017. Its a streamlined process that allows faster application processing for students from India.

Few key requirements of the SDS program are:

1. IELTS 6 band in each module for undergraduate diploma/degrees
2. IELTS 6.5 band in each module for Post graduate diplomas/Master’s degree.
3. $10,000 GIC paid upfront before visa application.
4. 100% of the college/university fees paid before visa application. There should be no outstanding amounts at all.
5. The institute that the student has gained admission must have DLI number.

Our advise is that most students from India apply for their student visa in the SDS category.

All public colleges and universities have a DLI number.

The small percentage of students who can’t get admission in a public institution may attain admission in a private college and apply for a student visa through the General category.

All students who are applying in General category should pay the whole year’s tuition fee upfront and also pay for a GIC, just as in the SDS program. This greatly increases the chances of a visa.

Students from India, who are thinking of going the private college route, must still know that the approval rates for applications through the General category is very low.

Nonetheless, a well justified application has good chances in getting approved in the General category as well.
