IELTS Tip #2

Today’s IELTS Mantra (Tip #2) is us digging deeper into essay writing.

Everyday we see that its a challenge for students to write essays. A common problem is that they write essays that are circular in nature. The same 2 thoughts are repeated throughout the essay.

IELTS mantra

What do we suggest? How can you get out of this habit?

“Write your essay with a purpose.”

To find your purpose, keep this one mantra in mind:

“What does the idea mean to you?”

– Whatever it means to you, it will mean to the examiner!
– Explain that to the reader, and support it with an example.

Now:

You ask. Why do you need to give examples in an essay ?

1. It definitely increases your word count.
2. It makes your idea more convincing to the reader.

For example, on the subject of eating healthy food, I can say that “an apple a day keeps the doctor away .”
But I need to convince you how it actually works.

This is how you would do it:

First, it contains many healthy essential vitamins like vitamin B, which help to increase the body’s immune system (or) which helps to strengthen our bodies.

Secondly, an apple can be eaten raw at anytime. For example, if we are in a situation where we cannot cook , we can simply grab an apple and eat it as it is. This helps in satisfying / satiating our hunger.

Thirdly, an apple is available for cheap in the market. A pack of chips may cost Rs. 20, whereas an apple may cost half the price (or) an apple may cost only Rs. 10.
